Wester Hailes Mobility Hub

The Mobility Hub in Wester Hailes is a community-led space designed to support local journeys, shared resources, and climate-friendly living. Rooted in the priorities of the Wester Hailes Local Place Plan, the Hub is a physical expression of residents' vision for a healthier, more connected, and more sustainable neighbourhood.

Situated at the entrance to Westside Plaza, the Mobility Hub acts as a welcoming point for community activity, peer learning, and practical services. It brings together projects like the Bike Library, Tool Library, and a growing calendar of events and workshops that promote active travel, sustainable economy, and low-carbon living.

More than just infrastructure, the Hub is about local ownership—developed by and for the people of Wester Hailes. It is part of a wider effort to reclaim public space, reduce inequality, and create long-term community resilience.

Bike library

The Bike Library at the Wester Hailes Mobility Hub is a practical, community-based project developed through the Wester Hailes Local Place Plan to support active travel, health, and climate action.

Managed directly by Wester Hailes Community Trust, the Bike Library provides free access to a small but growing fleet of bikes for local residents of all ages. Whether for school runs, everyday errands, or weekend rides, the Bike Library helps remove cost barriers and supports a shift toward more sustainable, active transport.

Residents can sign up through the Trust to borrow bikes on a short-term basis, with safety equipment and basic support included. The Bike Library is part of our commitment to community wellbeing, environmental justice, and reducing transport inequality in Wester Hailes.

Tool Library

The Tool Library at the Wester Hailes Mobility Hub is a new initiative emerging from the Wester Hailes Local Place Plan, designed to support sustainable economy values, reduce waste, and make practical resources more accessible to local residents.

Delivered in partnership with the Edinburgh Tool Library, this project enables community members to borrow tools for DIY, gardening, repairs, and creative projects—without the cost of owning them.

By signing up for Edinburgh Tool Library membership, residents can access the full inventory of tools online, with items either directly collected from he hub or delivered to the Hub for collection. This model promotes sustainability, shared learning, and resourcefulness across Wester Hailes.

The Tool Library is part of the Mobility Hub’s wider vision: a community-led space that fosters resilience, climate action, and collaborative care.
