Small Sparks Grant for Wester Hailes Youth Agency Vlogging Project
The Wester Hailes Youth Agency applied for £1,816 to set up a Vlogging project for young people attending the Intermediate drop in sessions at the Pyramid Youth Centre. The project was designed and run by the young people resulting in two vlogs that they planned, directed, filmed and edited. The Senior Youth Worker involved in running the sessions commented,
The young people had the opportunity to have full creative control over a project, they embraced this and ensured the vlog was exactly how they wanted it to be. All the decisions around content, how it was filmed, what questions were asked came directly from them and they were able to put this together in a creative and fun way. As a result of this they challenged themselves to think differently about tasks, communicate with others involved in the project and reach decisions that they were all happy with. The young people showed commitment, dedication, excellent communication skills and worked well to support and encourage each other. They all gained confidence and were very proud of the finished result.
The young people involved then edited the content of the vlog. Technically this was challenging for them but they developed and built upon IT skills as well as working together to achieve the finished vlog. They then held a grand screening, showing it to other young people during a drop in session.
